Art is essential in expanding the horizons of children beyond everyday life. Children that are exposed to art early, are known to do better and go further in life as art creates an inner connection within the child to its outer environment.

What Is Art Therapy?

According to the American Art Therapy Association , "art therapy is a mental health profession that uses the creative process of art making to improve and enhance the physical, mental and emotional well-being of individuals of all ages. It is based on the belief that the creative process involved in artistic self-expression helps people to resolve conflicts and problems, develop interpersonal skills, manage behavior, reduce stress, increase self-esteem and self-awareness, and achieve insight."

In practice, art therapy can look very different when practiced by and with different individuals. It can be free-flowing or structured, interactive or individual. For children and adults with autism, it can be a wonderful way to open to doors to expression.

7 Leadership Skills Fostered in Arts Education | Edutopia

7 Leadership Skills Fostered in Arts Education | Edutopia:

In my art classes, I have the privilege of working with students who have become fired up and eager to take on urgent issues in their artwork. Whether it's the literacy rates in this country or their classmates cleaning up after themselves on campus, the students believe that art is a great way to communicate their concerns about the world and their community.
My hope is that my school and schools elsewhere recognize this contribution and also how it demonstrates leadership potential. APublish Post question to consider is this: As educators, do we look to the arts as a way of developing student leadership?

Holding a workshop on "IMPRESSIONISM the French Art Movement of mid 19th century" at Turner Fenton Secondary School' Brampton on behalf of Imaginons Le Francais Conference

(Claude Monet's "Impression Sunrise". It gave rise to the name of the Impressionist movement.)
I am looking forward to hold an 'art workshop' tomorrow on "IMPRESSIONISM the French Art Movement of mid 19th century" with over 100 students at 'Turner Fenton Secondary School' Brampton ...
Dated 1872, its subject is the harbour of Le Havre in France, using very loose brush strokes that suggest rather than delineate it. Monet explained the title later:
"Landscape is nothing but an impression, and an instantaneous one, hence this label that was given us, by the way because of me. I had sent a thing done in Le Havre, from my window, sun in the mist and a few masts of boats sticking up in the foreground. ... They asked me for a title for the catalogue, it couldn't really be taken for a view of Le Havre, and I said: 'Put Impression.' "
It was first displayed in 1874 during the first independent art show of the Impressionists (who were not yet known by that name). Critic Louis Leroy, inspired by the painting's name, titled his hostile review of the show in Le Charivari newspaper, "The Exhibition of the Impressionists", thus inadvertently naming the new art movement. He wrote: "Impression—I was certain of it. I was just telling myself that, since I was impressed, there had to be some impression in it … and what freedom, what ease of workmanship! Wallpaper in its embryonic state is more finished than that seascape." (Wikipedia)
Workshop is on behalf of the Imaginons Le Francais Conference

How Art Can Be Used To Enhance Your Mind - Edudemic

Starry Night by Van Gogh
How Art Can Be Used To Enhance Your Mind - Edudemic: "Music, dance, painting and other forms of art have shown to have an incredibly significant and positive effect on both children and adults. Art therapy has been used to awaken the senses of underprivileged children through both the viewing and creating of art.Through their artistic endeavors, they subconsciously associate themselves with their past. The memories come more freely since they are not elicited by direct objects, but indirect thought instead.

Due to many past experiences many children begin to develop nervousness, anxiety, sleeping excessive or too little, a lack of verbal, social and language skills. Many times depending on the color within a piece, or may be some other quality of the artwork, different emotions can be evoked by the observer unknowingly. Awakening of the senses through experimentation with the different types of art these children experience an untapped emotional world within themselves and with this association with their own inner being, they are able to show increased abilities in their cognitive, motor and social skills."
